Basic Protective Measures Against the Novel Coronavirus

Feb 12, 2020
  • Wash your hands frequently with hand and soap or with alcohol-based hand rub.
  • Practice general respiratory hygiene by covering your mouth and nose with a tissue or your flexed elbow.
  • Maintain social distancing by staying at least 3 feet away from people, especially those who are sick.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth. It may transfer the virus from your hands to these organs.
  • If you have a fever, cough, and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early.
  • If you have mild respiratory symptoms and no travel history to or within China, carefully practice basic respiratory and hand hygiene and stay home until you are recovered, if possible.
  • Practice general hygiene measures when visiting live animal markets, wet markets, or animal product markets.
  • Avoid consumption of raw or undercooked animal products and apply good food practices.
