Diet for patient with chronic kidney disease - Avicenna Health

If you are a patient with chronic kidney disease (CKD) or caring for a patient with CKD, learning about important dietary recommendations could be beneficial to reduce the risk of some complications. High protein diet from plant source, high calcium diet, mild to moderate restriction of sodium, potassium and phosphorus (based on the stage of CKD) are all helpful dietary recommendations for patients with CKD.
 
Limit or avoid, chicken and beef liver and drinks high in phosphorus such as cocoa, beer, dark sodas (always check the label!) and enjoy phosphorus lower alternatives such as: apples, berries, grapes, carrot sticks, cucumber, rice cakes.
 
Limit or avoid high potassium food and drinks such as banana, dried fruit, kiwi, prune, orange, grapefruit, Papaya, raisins, beets, lentils, and enjoy lower potassium alternatives such as apple, pineapple, berries, pears, lettuce, eggplant, Cauliflower, corn, rice, noodles.
